Interrupted Falling Dream
I slipped off an edge into a dark void and felt the usual surge of adrenaline. Normally this is the moment when I wake up, but this time the thought flashed through my mind that I had fallen like this many times before. In the same moment I recognized that I was dreaming.
Because of that realization the fear vanished almost immediately, and it somehow interrupted the usual sequence. Instead of waking up at the moment of death, the falling stopped and I found myself floating in a completely black void.
I couldn’t stay in this state for long. I only had a short time to wonder how it was possible that I couldn’t feel my body at all. I couldn't see, hear or feel anything, only my thoughts remained.
After a short while my senses began to return slowly. First I faintly felt the pressure of the bed against my back. The sensation was vague at first but gradually became stronger. I tried to reverse it and go back to the void to experience it a bit longer, but then I found myself fully awake in my bed.
